26 WORDS IN BASIC STROKES – WORD 3 – COURAGEOUS

Hello and welcome. Today we are breaking word number three into basic strokes for the 26 Words in Basic Strokes series. I’m Riëtte and I’m so happy you are here. Remember, we are keeping it simple, no flourishing or bouncing, just the basic modern calligraphy strokes. Need a refresher of the basic strokes? I show you step by step in the introduction video of this series. Today’s word is “courageous”. Let’s grab our pens or pencils and paper and break it down into its basic strokes.

You’ll start with an upstroke. Stop before you reach the x-height.

Next is a c-stroke. Also stop your exit stroke just before the x-height.

Oval.

A connector dot or eyelet for the oval combined with an underturn stroke. Let’s call it a connector dot underturn stroke.

Next you have an underturn stroke.

Then a connector dot for the ‘r’.

Another underturn stroke. This one starts below the x-height and also ends below the x-height.

Oval.

Underturn stroke, stop the exit stroke before you reach the x-height.

Oval.

Descending stroke.

Upstroke, stop the stroke before you reach the x-height.

E-stroke, stop the exit stroke before you reach the x-height.

Oval.

Connector dot underturn stroke.

Underturn stroke.

S-stroke.

Now let’s connect these strokes.

Upstroke.

C-stroke.

Oval.

Connector dot underturn stroke combination.

Connector dot for the ‘r’.

Underturn stroke.

Oval.

Underturn Stroke.

Oval.

Descending stroke.

Upstroke.

E-stroke.

Oval.
