26 Words in Basic Strokes – Word 25 – yummy

Hello and welcome back to 26 Words in Basic Strokes. I’m Riëtte and I’m breaking down one word a day for 26 days into the basic calligraphy strokes. We’re keeping it simple, no flourishes or bouncing. If you need an overview of the basic strokes I break them down in the introduction video of this series. Today’s word is number 25 – yummy.

We’ll start with a compound curve.

Next we have a descending stroke.

An upstroke.

An underturn stroke.

An upside down or reverse compound curve. We start with a thick down stroke.

An overturn stroke.

A compound curve with an extra down stroke – so we start with a thin upstroke thick down stroke another thin upstroke and we go down again into a thick down stroke.

An overturn stroke.

Now we have another compound curve, but let’s call this a double compound curve. We go up, down, again up, again down and again up.

A descending stroke.

And an upstroke.

Now let’s put them together.

A compound curve.

A descending stroke.

An upstroke.

An underturn stroke.

A reverse or upside down compound curve.

An overturn stroke.

A compound curve with an extra down stroke.

An overturn stroke.

A double compound curve.

A descending stroke.

And an upstroke.

And that’s the word “yummy”.
