26 Words in basic strokes – word 22 – vintage

Hello and welcome back to 26 Words in Basic Strokes. I’m Riëtte and I’m breaking down one word a day for 26 days into the basic calligraphy strokes. We’re keeping it simple, meaning no flourishes and no bouncing. If you need an overview of the basic strokes I break them down in the introduction video of this series. Today is word number 22 – vintage.

We’ll start with a compound curve.

Next we have a connector dot.

Next we an upside down or reverse compound curve starting with a thick downstroke.

Another compound curve.

A t-stroke.

An oval.

An underturn stroke. The exit stroke on this underturn stroke, or the second stroke doesn’t quite reach the x-height.

An oval.

A descending stroke.

An upstroke that doesn’t quite reach the x-height.

And an e-stroke.

Now let’s put them together.

Compound curve.

Connector dot.

Reverse or upside down compound curve.

Compound curve.

T-stroke.

Oval.

Underturn stroke.

Oval.

Descending stroke.

Upstroke.

E-stroke.

Dot the “i” and cross the “t”.

And that’s the word “vintage”.
