Time for 26 Words in Basic Strokes again. Word number 20 today, tidings. In case you stumbled upon this post and have no idea what I’m talking about, 26 Words in Basic Strokes is a series of videos where I break down one word a day for 26 days into the basic calligraphy strokes. I’m keeping it simple meaning no flourishing or bouncing. You can follow along with any brush pen you have lying around and if you’re a complete beginner I would suggest using a soft pencil. 26 Words in Basic Strokes – word 29 – tidings

Hello and welcome back to 26 Words in Basic Strokes. I’m Riëtte and I’m breaking down one word a day for 26 days into the basic calligraphy strokes. We’re keeping it simple, no flourishes and bouncing. If you need an overview of the basic strokes I break them down in the introduction video of this series. Today is word number 20, tidings.

We’ll start with an upstroke.

Next we have a t-stroke.

Next is an underturn stroke. The exit stroke doesn’t quite reach the x-height.

An oval.

Another t-stroke.

A reverse or upside down compound curve where you start with a thick downstroke.

A compound curve starting with a thin downstroke. Your exit stroke on your compound curve doesn’t reach the x-height.

An oval.

A descending stroke.

An upstroke.

Now let’s connect them.

Upstroke.

T-stroke.

Underturn stroke.

Oval.

T-stroke.

Upside down or reverse compound curve.

Compound curve.

Oval.

Descending stroke.

Upstroke.

S-stroke.

Remember to cross your to – the first one – and dot your two “i’s”.

And that’s the word “tidings”.
