26 words in basic strokes -word 12 – lovely
Hello and welcome back to 26 Words in Basic Strokes. I’m Riëtte and I’m breaking down one word a day for 26 days into the basic calligraphy strokes. We’re keeping it simple, no flourishes and no bouncing. If you need an overview of the basic strokes I break them down in the introduction video of this series. Today’s word is lovely. Let’s get started.
We’ll start with an upstroke.

Move on to an l or t-stroke – Remember it’s a combination of an ascending stroke and an underturn stroke.

Then we have an oval.

Next we have a combination of a connector dot and an underturn stroke, and the exit stroke of the underturn stroke can stop before you reach the x-height.

Another connector dot.

An e-stroke.

A combination l-stroke and compound curve, so you move from your l-stroke directly into your compound curve.

A descending stroke.

And an upstroke.

Let’s connect all these strokes.
Upstroke.

L-stroke.

Oval.

Connector dot and underturn stroke combination.

Connector dot.

E-stroke.

L-stroke and compound curve combination.

Descending stroke.

Upstroke.

And that’s the word lovely.

I would love to see your practice. Tag me on Instagram using #26wordsinbasicstrokes. Thank you so much for watching. I’ll see you tomorrow with another word.
