26 WORDS IN BASIC STROKES – WORD 10 – JOURNEY
Hello and welcome back to 26 Words in Basic Strokes. I’m Riëtte and I’m breaking down one word a day for 26 days into the basic calligraphy strokes. We’re keeping it simple, no flourishes, no bouncing. If you need an overview of the basic strokes I break them down in the Introduction video of this series. Today is word 10 – today’s word is “journey”.
We start with an upstroke.

Next we have a descending stroke.

Another upstroke that doesn’t quite reach the x-height.

An oval.

A connector dot and underturn stroke combination.

An underturn stroke.

A connector dot.

A reverse or upside down compound curve that starts where the connector dot ended.

A compound curve. The exit stroke finishes before it reaches the x-height.

An e-stroke and compound curve combination.

A descending stroke.

And an upstroke.

Now let’s put them all together.
Upstroke.

Descending stroke.

Connector dot and underturn stroke combination.

Underturn stroke.
