Hello and welcome to Day 1 of 26 Words in Basic Strokes, today’s word is “amazing”! In this video series I’m breaking one word a day into it’s basic modern calligraphy strokes. I’m keeping it simple, no flourishing or bouncing, just the basic strokes.

26 WORDS IN BASIC STROKES – WORD 1 – AMAZING
Hello and welcome to 26 Words in Basic Strokes. I’m Riëtte and I’m excited to show you how to break down the first word. Remember, I’ll be keeping it simple. No flourishes, no bouncing, just the basic strokes. If you aren’t sure what the basic strokes are, go
to the intro video of the series, I walk you through each of them there. Grab your pen or pencil and paper and let’s break down the first word, “amazing”.
You’re going to start with an upstroke that doesn’t quite reach the x-height.

Next you’ll create an oval.

The next stroke is an upside down or reverse compound curve.

Then an overturn stroke.

A compound curve, the last stroke must stop it before it reaches the x-height.

Next, you’ll create an oval.

Another upside down or reverse compound curve.

A modified descending stroke, the descending stroke for the ‘z’.

Upstroke.

Upside down or reverse compound curve.

A compound curve, again, not quite reaching the x-height.

Oval.

Descending stroke.

Upstroke.

Now let’s connect all these strokes. Upstroke.

Oval.

Upside down or reverse compound curve.

Overturn stroke.

Compound curve.

Oval.

Upside down or reverse compound curve.

Modified descending stroke.

Upstroke.

Upside down or reverse compound curve.

Compound curve.

Oval.

Descending stroke.

Upstroke.
